The Second Summer is a Chicago-based, alternative power-pop band that channels both 90s college rock and alt-rock radio. The band’s lively sound is accompanied by a freeflowing lyricism that perfectly reflects the feelings and themes of second chances.
Debuting in 2023, The Second Summer released their first album, undertow, with Matt Broder on guitar and backup vocals, Joe Cancellaro playing bass, Steve Gatland on guitar and lead vocals, and Tony Holmes on drums.
Each instrument builds on the other toward the ear-catching hook of the song, inspired by acts such as Gin Blossoms, Cheap Trick, and even Chicago’s own Material Issue. The band’s passion for performance gives The Second Summer a unique ability to create melodies that feel like a map to life as a whole.
