Chicago, IL, —(2/5/26)— Hardstop Records is proud to announce the signing of The Second Summer, an alternative power-pop band that creates the perfect tunes for rolling the windows down on a drive with friends.
Combining the drums and bass of 90’s college rock with the lyrics and guitar of alternative radio, The Second Summer has quickly found a way to tap into the heart of the Chicago music scene, emphasizing their DIY aspects and becoming known for their performance quality.
Named after Chicago’s “second summer,” known as a second round of warm weather in the months of fall, the band perfectly reflects the theme of second chances. The Second Summer draws inspiration from power-pop bands like Smoking Popes and Chicago’s own Material Issue, but also leans into the vibes of Cheap Trick, building their melodies up to the powerful hook of the song.
Band members include Matt Broder on guitar and backup vocals, Joe Concellaro playing bass, Steve Gatland on guitar and lead vocals, and Tony Holmes holding down the fort with the drums. These guys came together amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, using melody as a map amidst the change and heartbreak of the time.
The Second Summer has one album, undertow, out now (you can stream on Spotify!), and is currently working on their next claim to fame, to be released early spring of 2026. Their new single, Try, which will be featured on the album, is out now.
